BIOGRAPHY
Born and raised in New York City, David K Gordon studied at the High School of Music and Art, followed by Cooper Union and Cranbrook Academy of Art, where he received his BFA. Mr. Gordon then developed a highly successful graphic design company, specializing in all areas of direct response advertising. As a designer he was renowned for his ability to combine creativity and imagination. His success lay in an unstoppable energy and enthusiasm.
In the mid 90s DKG returned full-time to painting. In his work he explores new dimensionalities by which the still-life embodies abstract design as well as realizing the multiple surfaces of a quiet, but sensual environment. The work is executed in an extraordinary, modern use of pastel and that fathoms all possibilities of the media. DKG works with an urgent passion that is perfectly matched by the vigor of his art.
DKG’s pastels were immediately seized for exhibition by the Tatitscheff Gallery in New York. One-man shows in September 2001, January 2003 and May of 2004 followed. DKG was then featured in a major article in Pastel Journal. He is now a member of the Spring Street Gallery and will be having a solo exhibition of his most recent work, executed in oils, pastels and prints, September of 2009.
The New York Times, in a review of his show, stated:
“Mr. Gordon…gives things like paper bags, bisected muffins, rumpled dishtowels and culinary hardware — scattered or in altar-like formation — a shimmering animation.“
